Department of solid state engineering (formerly known as the Department of chemical technology of materials for electronics) was founded at UCT Prague in 1984 to provide high-quality education of solid state engineering of materials for electronics. Later, during the introduction of new study programmes at UCT between 1989-1992 was the department's educational reach broaden. Currently the Department of solid state engineering  along with other materials oriented deparments at FCHT (Deparment of metals and corrosion engineering, Department of glass and ceramics, Department of solid state chemistry, Deparment of polymers) provides education in the field of Material engineering both in basic and post-gradual study programmes. Foundation of Electro and Biomaterials is to be found here as well.
